In 1997, DepotStar, Inc. that does product development , electrical and mechanical engineering and design looked at creating an AOA system that would incorporate ultra bright LED’s, utilizing a new technology, pressure measurement system, which could be packaged, installed and calibrated to any aircraft flying. This new electronic digital AOA must not affect any flight critical system, draw minimal current and be able to install in most aircraft without any major modifications. The first LED version fit into a standard 2.250” instrument panel opening and mimicked the mechanical needle
movement. The idea is simple. The more LED’s that are on, the more the lift, lower angle of attack (AOA). It became apparent that from all of the customers panel requirements, varied cockpit layouts, additional pilot display requests, that DepotStar (Alpha Systems AOA) needed to design and create additional displays in a linear, vertical and horizontal LED bar graph versions.
DepotStar, Inc. today manufactures the Alpha Systems AOA with over 9 different systems, of both mechanical (strictly pressure differential) and high visibility, electronic ultra bright LED display systems. constantly working to provide AOA systems that help aid in the pilots’ accurate identification of AOA, specifically calibrated to the aircraft’s airfoil, which will give a linear readout from Cruise to Stall.
At the 2009 EAA Oshkosh air show, Alpha Systems AOA introduced one of the newest instruments, a 2.5” long, by ¾” wide, The “Ultra”AOA” a 3mm ultra bright LED, bar graph display system.
